The final event of the Corporation calendar, the Michaelmas Ball was held on Friday 30th November at the Dryburgh Abbey Hotel.
130 guests attended what was described later as " a grand night".
One of the highlights of the evening is the grand charity draw. This years recipient was the Princess Royal Trust for Carers and the princely (princessly?) sum of £1450 was raised. A great thanks must go to all who donated prizes and also for all who dipped into their pockets, purses and wallets to buy tickets on the night.
The vast majority danced the night away to the music of local band "The Strangers" and at the appointed hour of one in the morning it was left to former Deacon Alistair Buchan to introduce the new Deacon with the traditional words "the Deacon is dead, long live the Deacon".
It was then time for breakfast (1:30 in the morning!) before departing by carriage at 2:00 am
